After every guess the tiles change colour to show how close you got.
W is in the word, and in the right place.
L is in the word, but somewhere else.
U is not in the word at all.
Any real word counts as a guess. If we do not know it, we look it up before holding it against you — random letters will just get handed back.
Today's word is the only one that counts towards your record and streak. The 4, 5 and 6 buttons deal practice words as often as you like, and those count for nothing. A new day starts at midnight New York time.
